Comprehensive Renewable Energy Solutions for Offshore Wind, Wave,Solar, Tidal & Hybrid Sectors
We are an independent expert in renewable energy financial modelling, analysis, optioneering and optimisation.
Our senior team consists of specialists in energy, finance, ICT, and policy.
With a proven track record, we excel in various renewable energy sectors, including offshore wind, floating offshore wind, wave, tidal, offshore aquaculture, power-to-x, and floating PV energy.
Sectors
-
Wind
We work in onshore wind, offshore fixed wind and floating wind.
-
Wave
Wave Energy is where it all started for one of our co-founders, who has been involved in this sector since 1995.
-
Tidal
Just like Wave Energy, we work with Tidal Energy technology and project developers and are involved in developing their standards.
-
Solar
Floating solar PV (FPV) is the catch-all term for both inland lakes and reservoirs and offshore floating PV.
-
Hybrid Power
Hybrid power is an area where we are powerful and has a strong future.
-
We have been involved throughout the supply chain at different scales, looking at techno-financial modelling, innovation, feasibility and business intelligence.
Some examples would be:
Modelling onshore wind mid-life wind assets to pinpoint technical and financial underperformance and then to game out corrective scenarios to bring the financial performance back to target.
Looking at the life cycle benefit of micro-wind turbines on vessels for diesel offset whilst in port. The emphasis here was to show the technology benefit in terms a small vessel owner could relate to.
Moorings and substructures—We have worked with several different companies and projects to examine the financial impact of moorings and anchors of substructure components for floating wind. Recently, we collaborated on an Innovate UK-funded project with Floating Energy Systems, applying our skills to the Stinger Keel floating wind turbine base.
Innovative technologies—We work with new entrants, such as World Wide Wind, on disruptive, innovative wind concepts. We help with cost and performance targeting.

We can usually deep dive into the technical as well as the usual financial aspects of the technology and work with technology innovators as well as project developers.
Our co-founder is also Chair of the Irish Mirror Committee of TC 114, which aims to develop standards for marine energy – Wave, tidal, and other water current converters. We have been involved in developing standards since the inception of TC114 and have applied them in both our software and our consultancy work.
Some examples:
Techno-financial modelling of wave energy.
In the EU SCORES Project, we have done this for individual technologies now and in the future, as well as sector-wide. Our software measures wave energy yield from wave resource and performance matrices, which feed the financial metrics.
Leading on from this type of analysis for wave energy companies, is working on their development roadmap. This could help them focus effort on the best return, create funding or investment materials, create business plans, or even communicate the benefits of their system. We did this during the Marine Energy Alliance Project with 16 companies, many of them wave energy such as Mocean Energy, Benson Engineering and Pure Marine and are playing a similar role for Ocean Energy in the EU WEDUSEA Project.
We have also codified this with Wood PLC to develop technical and financial software for the wave energy sector and trialed it with Seapower ltd.
We have co-developed wave energy systems for aquaculture with TFI Marine.
Latest on this is Wave Goodbye to Diesel. -
Our software does tidal stream yield from tidal resource and performance curves, feeding the financial metrics. This allows us to help with the whole value chain and lifecycle of the technology and the business.
Some examples:We worked for Ecofin Solutions with Schottel Hydro and Advisian through an ARENA funded project to look at the feasibility of a tidal turbine reef off One Arm point in North. We were considering not only the financial viability but also the community impact of offsetting diesel generation. One Arm Point is an Aboriginal Australian community town on the Dampier Peninsula in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
We have also worked with an innovative Tidal Technology developer, Tidal Flyer , since 2017, helping them develop their technology, business, and funding strategy. We have engaged with them directly and collaborated on funded projects.
They are also customers of our software Exfin.

Currently considered a niche market, FPV is growing in interest, mainly in Asia.
In Europe, the Netherlands has set a target of 3GW by 2030, specifically for offshore floating PV.Exceedence has previously worked with HelioRec, a French FPV company, developing a novel floating substructure component. We provided the financial analysis of their subcomponent as part of two business cases and two applications: 1) HelioRec as a supplier and 2) HelioRec providing turn-key solutions for both inland FPV and offshore FPV.
In the EU-SCORES project, we are working with Oceans of Energy, which is demonstrating its offshore FPV technology. Several business cases are also being developed on offshore FPV as part of hybrid solutions.

For us, this can mean a multitude of things:
In the SCORES project, this means examining the benefits of co-locating renewable technologies like wind, wave, and floating PV. These benefits are not just on the project side but run deeper into system cost benefits.
With GRSI (Global Renewable Systems), this meant looking at the benefits of combining wind and wave energy technologies on a single platform.
We worked with Dolphines in the Marine Energy Alliance on hydrogen production and storage from a floating offshore wind platform.
With TFI Marine, this means combining small amounts of wave and other renewables with storage on an aquaculture platform to reduce the reliance, cost and impact of diesel significantly.
